Terms of Use
Pile Boss for Android, iPhone and iPad · Tallie Tales LLC · Last updated October 28, 2026
The short version: Pile Boss is licensed to you, not sold. Pile Boss Pro is an optional subscription that renews automatically until you cancel it, and the store you bought it from — Google Play or the App Store — handles every payment, renewal, cancellation and refund. Pile Boss is a record-keeping tool, not a measuring instrument, and the person signing the record is still responsible for it.
1. Who these terms are with
Pile Boss is developed and published by Tallie Tales LLC, a limited liability company organized in the United States ("we", "us"). By installing or using Pile Boss you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. Contact: piledrivingapp@tallietales.com.
On iPhone and iPad, purchases through the App Store are also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which applies to Pile Boss as the standard end user licence agreement. Where that agreement and these terms cover the same ground for an App Store purchase, Apple's agreement governs. On Android, purchases are governed by the Google Play Terms of Service.
2. Your licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Pile Boss on devices you own or control, for your own work and your employer's work. You may not sell, rent, sublicence or redistribute the app, reverse engineer it except to the extent the law allows, or remove the notices in it.
3. Pile Boss Pro — the subscription
Recording, reviewing and editing pile logs are part of the app and are not limited. Exporting a finished record is included for an introductory period after you first use the app, and after that the app includes a set number of new piles exported each calendar month; a pile you have already exported can be exported again at no cost, in any month and in any format. Pile Boss Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription that removes the limit on new piles.
- Plans and length. Pile Boss Pro is offered as a monthly plan and an annual plan — one month and one year respectively.
- Price. The price of each plan, and any introductory price, is shown in the app before you buy and on the store listing, in your own currency. Those prices, not this page, are the ones that apply.
- Automatic renewal. Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google account when you confirm the purchase. The subscription renews automatically at the then-current price for the same length, unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Introductory price. Where an introductory price is offered, it applies for the stated first period only; the plan then renews at its regular price. An introductory price is available once per customer per subscription group.
- Cancelling. Manage or cancel the subscription in Settings › your Apple ID › Subscriptions on iPhone and iPad, or in Google Play › Payments and subscriptions on Android. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not shorten the period you have already paid for.
- Refunds. Refunds are handled by Apple or by Google under their own policies. We cannot issue a refund for a store purchase, because we never receive the payment.
4. What Pile Boss is not
Pile Boss counts hammer blows and estimates stroke from sound picked up by the device's own microphone. It is not a pile driving analyzer, not a dynamic testing system, and not a calibrated instrument; the decibel figures it shows are uncalibrated and are there to help you set the app up, not to measure anything. Readings depend on the device, its microphone, where it is placed and the noise around it.
You are responsible for checking what Pile Boss records against the drive in front of you, and for the records you sign and submit. Nothing in the app is engineering advice or an approval of a pile. We are not affiliated with, and the app is not endorsed by, any transportation department or other agency whose forms the app can fill in.
5. Your records
The logs you create are yours. They are stored on your own device, and we have no copy of them and no way to recover them. Keep your own backups and export the records you need to keep; losing the device, deleting the app or a failed backup means losing the data on it.
6. No warranty
Pile Boss is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error free, or that every blow will be counted correctly in every acoustic environment. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
7. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, Tallie Tales LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or costs of substitute services, arising out of or relating to your use of Pile Boss. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for the app and for any subscription in the twelve months before the claim.
8. Changes and ending the licence
We may update Pile Boss and these terms. An updated version of these terms will be posted at this address with a new "last updated" date; material changes will be described in the app's release notes. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms. This licence ends if you stop using the app and delete it, or if you breach these terms.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, except where the law of your own country of residence must apply.
